J'ai le grand plaisir, sur l'invitation du Centrum voor Muziekinstrumentenbouw, d'animer deux ateliers thématiques, à destination des luthiers professionnels ou étudiants.

Ça se passe au CMB à Puurs, en Belgique, à mi-chemin entre Anvers et Bruxelles.

1 - Installation des frettes barrettes

Ce workshop est consacré à l'installation de frettes barrettes, telles qu'on les trouve sur certaines guitares romantiques, les Martin pré-années 30 et nombre de mandolines. Nous verrons les outils, les matériaux utilisés, le fil de frette historique, le fil de frette moderne et les alternatives qu'il est possible de réaliser soi-même économiquement à l'atelier.
Le lundi 6 avril 2020 de 14 à 18 heures. La participation demandée est de 20€.

2 - Initiation au tour à métaux

La lutherie concerne surtout le travail du bois. Cependant, des notions de travail du métal peuvent être d'une grande utilité, pour la fabrication de petit outillage ou de gabarits. Ce workshop nous permettra d'aborder les bases du tournage du métal et la fabrication d'un outil de tour. Nous mettrons tout cela en pratique avec la fabrication d'un arbre de scie-fraise !
Le mardi 07 avril 2020 de 9h à 13 heures. Maximum 5 participants. Participation 20€, l'outil de tour peut être acheté pour 8€.

Ik ben heel blij, dit jaar en op aanvraag van het Centrum voor Muziekinstrumentenbouw Puurs, de twee volgende workshop te bieden :

1 - Zilveren staaffrets maken

In deze workshop wordt ons door Simon Burgun, ex-cursist en professioneel bouwer, een introductie gegeven in het gebruik en het vervaardigen van zilveren staaffrets, zoals die ook in originele romantische gitaren te vinden zijn.
Datum: maandag 06 april 2020  van 14 tot 18u. Deelname: € 20

2 - Metaaldraaien

Bij muziekinstrumentenbouw wordt vooral aan houtbewerking gedacht. Nochtans is enige notie van metaalbewerking een grote meerwaarde voor een instrumentenmaker, denk maar aan het zelf vervaardigen van kleine gereedschappen of hulpstukken. Simon Burgun, ex-cursist en tevens professioneel bouwer, leert ons in deze cursus de beginselen van het metaaldraaien. Er wordt per cursist een werkstukje gemaakt alsook enkele beiteltjes om later zelf aan de slag te kunnen. Beperkt aantal deelnemers !

I'm very happy, this year to offer the two following workshops at the Centrum voor Muziekinstrumentenbouw de Puurs :

1 - Working with bar frets

Bar frets are common on early romantic guitars, pre-1930 Martin and many European mandolins. Knowing them is useful for restorers and luthiers wishing to offer accurate copies of these instruments. We'll review period and modern materials, workshop alternatives, first installation and refretting techniques, tips and issues.
Monday april 6^th 2020  2-6PM. Contribution is 20€.

2 - Metal lathe for beginners

When it comes to guitar making, we think of woodworking first. But basic skills in metalworking can prove very useful, for example for making tools or jigs. In this workshop, we'll see the basics of metal turning theory, the making of a lathe tool. We'll practise by making each an arbor for using a little circular saw on the drill press.
Tuesday April 7^th 2020 9AM-1PM. 5 participants max. Contribution is 20€. Optional tool is 8€
